The I Advanced Module of the Community Energy Academy was hosted at the ICLEI Europe flagship program Breakfast at Sustainability as part of a short series on energy justice in transitions.  The module gathers local government policymakers, researchers, practitioners, and energy planners to explore inclusion and justice as central components of the energy transition and of energy communities. This in-depth discussion highlights recommendations, research results, and good practices for local governments and community energy initiatives, drawing on expertise from the EC2 project and the previous modules of the Community Energy Academy.

This module aims to:

  • Explore the concepts of energy justice and inclusion in the energy transition,
  • Present the narratives identified through the research that are relevant at the local level,
  • Explore different barriers to, and enablers of, participation in the energy system at the local level,
  • Understand and discuss motivating factors: examples of tools to support engagement and empowerment.
